Join The New Revolution In Wellness

When someone asks how you are and you say "I'm fine" or "doing well" or "great", what do you mean? Do you say that because you are not sick and because you are not sick are you really well? What is wellness anyway?

Wellness is definitely one of the new buzz words in health, and it means taking responsibility for your health. It means that you are considerate to your bodies needs, and that you choose a lifestyle that supports, maintains, and increases your health and is a whole lot more than simply being "not ill".

Wellness means a healthy balance of the mind-body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being and is an ongoing process throughout your life. Being well suggests good health, strength, fitness, aliveness, and energy as well as an inner sense of well-being. It is also a way of living that improves and strengthens your immunity to reduce the risk of major disease and illness.

The current "health care" system could better be called an "illness treatment system" treating symptoms and diseases after they occur. This system is dependant on sickness to survive; therefore, it must insure that there is plenty of sickness to keep it busy. It has nothing to do with health and fosters a culture of medical dependence and irresponsibility for one's own well being.

This "sickness" business is reactive; no one really wants to be a customer of this system until they are forced to when stricken by illness. However at this stage the human body has already arrived at a broken down state and it may be too late. Wellness cannot come from drugs, hospitals and doctors.

The greatest health challenge our society faces today is the fact that 60% of people in the world has at least one illness and many have multiple chronic conditions with the majority of the population being overweight or obese.

Sadly, incredibly powerful, money motivated forces are not helping people to take control of their own health and are actually encouraging them to gain weight and become unhealthier to continue to feed the "sickness" system. Where are the voices of outrage about this? Do you care?

This has to be changed before it is too late for the sake of our own lives and our children's. A new focus on wellness, not sickness, is essential for a 21st century health system. Without our health, little else in life can be accomplished. But health is not a given right ¨C and wellness means becoming more proactive and taking responsibility for ones own health and well-being and finding and practicing solutions to ensure this.

People are voluntarily becoming customers of this new revolution ¨C to feel healthier, become stronger and fitter, to reduce the effects of aging, improve the quality of their lives and to avoid becoming customers of the sickness business.
This new way of wellness is a philosophy of life and is a conscious decision to follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a proper exercise program that uses strength training exercise as the main component. This ensures the metabolism is keep running right to keep body weight in check and strength and energy levels high. It will also help distress and calm you making you feel really good, all helping maintaining wellness.

Wellness can be achieved individually through simple lifestyle changes like proper exercise and eating well using natural whole foods as opposed to processed foods. This double whammy will quickly put you on track with your lifestyle to ensure your long term, all round wellness.

Longevity gene works, but you must eat right...

The studies show that SIR2 has anti-ageing properties and can combat ageing and age-related diseases, but it works only on a low-calorie diet. The gene is found in living organisms, including human beings. The findings have been published in the January editions of Cell Reports and Molecular and Cellular Biology.
A low-calorie diet positively impacts this gene in the human body, which subsequently provides protection from diseases like diabetes, obesity, cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cardiovascular diseases, and promotes "healthy ageing", says the study.
The gene has been at the centre of a global controversy for many years, with one school of scientists saying it extends lifespans, while another school disagrees. The arguments questioned the relevance of expensive drugs to mimic the effect of this gene to defy ageing and age-related diseases. The new study shows SIR2 has anti-ageing properties.
"Our study resolves the hotly debated controversy about the role of SIR2 as a longevity gene. We have found that it may slow down the ageing process, but it may not directly increase the number of years one lives. We found a low-calorie intake has a significant impact on SIR2 protein and helps the body combat age-related diseases," said Dr Ullas Kolthur from TIFR's Department of Biological Sciences, and principal investigator of the study.
In a liver equivalent tissue, the gene helps in achieving metabolic and energy balance, and mediates beneficial effects throughout the body. The study, however, showed that high-calorie food adversely impacted the gene, and it was not able to protect the body from a series of diseases associated with old age and bad eating habits.

Are YOU a carrot, the egg, or the coffee bean ?

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling.
It seemed that, as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans.
She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about twenty minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?"
"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," the young woman replied. The mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity - boiling water - but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.
The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened! The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
"Which are you?" the mother asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?" Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong but, with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit but, after a death, a breakup, or a financial hardship, does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor.
If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

The Power of Your Mind

With so many people today dealing with an ever increasing debt load, bankruptcy, foreclosure and even long term unemployment money has become a greater and more central stress factor in our lives.
When we worry about money problems, we run the risk of letting our whole life revolve around fear and the negative possibilities of not having money. The more you worry about money, the more you will notice every little cent that you spend. The more you are aware of how much you have to spend, the more you worry about how little you make. This can create a vicious cycle of negativity about money and spending.
If you have stopped to consider what is happening, you will see the obvious trap. If you are thinking about debt, you will see bills everywhere you go. Going to the mailbox will be a torture because (guess what) inside your mailbox you will find bills. You will also find letters from friends, birthday cards and maybe even a coupon book that will help to save money. But you won’t take notice of them because your focus is on debt, bills and lack of cash.
In order to gain freedom, you have to stop thinking about debt and lack of money (negative thoughts) and start thinking about the abundance already present in your life (positive thoughts). Visualize yourself going to the mailbox and finding a check or a book of coupons that will save you money at the store. See yourself having what you need and being grateful for all that you have. Don’t dwell on what you don’t have, but instead look to the future and to the blessings that you have today.
When you start to focus on all the wonderful things in your life, many which have nothing to do with money, you will automatically feel spiritually richer and more fulfilled. This in turn leads to a positive view of the future and chances to change your positive financial opportunities in the world around you.

You Are The Energy Source.

Commitment is the ultimate assertion of human freedom. It releases all the energy you possess and enables you to take quantum leaps in creativity. When you set a one-pointed intention and absolutely refuse to allow obstacles to dissipate the focused quality of your attention, you engage the infinite organizing power of the universe.
There is no limit to your ability to co-create with the universe, but to find that out, you must engage life with commitment. You must be willing to put yourself on the line because when you commit yourself to anything, you express every aspect of who you are. If you give everything you have to your chosen pursuit, your strengths and talents, as well as your weaknesses and shadows, will all be exposed. Commitment brings up everything.
This unavoidable fact is the reason why many people fear or avoid commitment; they so dislike what they perceive as their negative characteristics that they hold back, acting in the belief that life will be safer. They may attain the illusion of security, but at the same time they severely limit their experience of what life can bring. Here are a few of the most common decisions that keep us from totally engaging in life:
1. I don’t want to look bad.
This decision is about self-image, which is only a superficial impression of who you are. Be willing to forget how you look. Olympic runners usually cross the finish line drenched in sweat, their faces contorted with the effort. In their passion to win, they don’t care how they look. If you are focused on your own passionate commitment and your inner feelings of satisfaction, you won’t worry about your appearance either.
2. I don’t want to fail.
Those who are afraid to fall down usually were ridiculed or humiliated in the past. They have a conditioned belief that failing means they are worthless. Their fear is so great that they walk away from new challenges rather than risking failure. If this is you, it’s important to be a good parent to your scared self, offering yourself lavish praise and encouragement. Set minor goals for yourself, such as jogging around the block or making an omelet. As you do this activity, feel what it’s like to succeed. If things go a bit wrong, tell yourself that it’s all right. Slowly develop your connection to the voice of encouragement.
3. I don’t want anyone to see me fail.
This decision stems from shame, which is the internalized fear of other people’s opinions. Their disapproval becomes your shame. You can counter this decision by realizing that what others think about you reflects their beliefs about what is good and bad – not yours. Also refrain from shaming others. Your ego self may think that it can protect its vulnerability by gossiping or tearing down others, but in reality this only perpetuates a culture of shame.
4. I don’t want any pain.
This decision has to do with a fear of psychological rather than physical pain. Those who have suffered in the past without being able to find healing may have a great aversion to any new possibilities of pain. They avoid commitment in an attempt to remain invulnerable. It may help to remember that in the cosmic design, pain is neutral. In the physical world, pain motivates us negatively, while pleasure motivates us positively. True freedom is letting go of our attachment to both. The best way to begin this process is developing a state of witness consciousness through practices such as meditation and mindful awareness.
5. I don’t want to use up all my energy.
In reality, the thing that drains energy most is the act of holding back. The more you try to conserve your energy, the more it dwindles. For example, people who are afraid to love may end up constricting love’s expression. They close their hearts and stop the flow of compassion from replenishing their lives. To expand your channels of energy, learn to give. Whenever you feel like you don’t have enough, give to someone in need, whether in the form of money, time, or attention. In addition, follow your passion. If you’ve ever committed yourself passionately to anything, you’ve no doubt noticed that the more energy you devote to it, the more you have.
Spirit responds to your vision of it, and the higher your vision, the more you will evolve. As you surrender to commitment, the entire field of potentiality opens to you, and fulfillment becomes your daily reality.

In this post, Deepak Chopra shows why going beyond the most common blocks to commitment gives you access to the full power of your passion, energy, and love.
